    Hyper Power engineers design their dynamometer systems to accurately measure vehicle engine performance whilst simulating typical loads that an engine may encounter in daily use. Our equipment can subject the engine to a constant load, a constant speed or an "inertia load".

    The Product

    Hyper Power dynamometer systems compare very favourably to well-known international marques in terms of quality and ability and surpass them in almost all cases in terms of affordability. It’s powerful and dynamic software enables the user to extract as much usable information from a test run as possible, and enables the user to store all tests.

    Hyper Power currently offers constant load dyno’s, inertia dyno’s and a combination dyno that may be used in either mode.

    The weight of the inertia dyno is calculated to accurately simulate the acceleration of a vehicle as if it was driven on the road. In this mode, the system is able to produce full torque and power curves v/s either engine RPM/Speed/Time/distance in less than 20 seconds. This is of great advantage, since extended dyno testing may cause engine overheating and subsequent damage.  Full load engine mapping is typically done on the Inertia dyno.

    All rolling (chassis) dynamometers have the option to upgrade the inertia to have a loading facility.   This enables you to accurately add additional load to the inertia to either simulate road conditions or to control the speed to a fixed RPM (regardless of load). Other handy applications include doing endurance testing, running in engines or even diagnostics at different load conditions.

    All rollers are straight knurled for reduced noise level and to increase tyre grip by as much as 100%.  Hyper Power’s double (car/truck) rollers are placed closer together; optimised to give the maximum stability (especially FWD) and reduced tyre deformation.  The rollers are furthermore connected with a very quiet HTD belt configuration to further improve total traction and reduce tyre temperatures.

    A very sensitive wide band lambda sensor (LSU4.9) can be integrated into the software to record and plot fuel mixtures while either Inertia (acceleration) or loading tests are performed.  This is extremely helpful when doing engine mapping/tuning or diagnostic testing.  This Air/Fuel ratio meter can also be used as a stand-alone unit, e.g. to do testing on the road or track.

    Up to 64 sensors (temperature, pressure, fuel flow, air mass, TPS, etc) can be added to this system which may help the serious tuner in assessing problems or do scientific engine tuning/testing/development.

     

    Method of operation

    The Inertia dynamometer operates on the principle of Newton’s second law of motion, which relates the acceleration of the dyno’s heavy rolls / flywheel to the engine’s power. By measuring the acceleration, the computer calculates the torque and power outputs.

    Since all Hyper Power’s inertia dynamometers are digital, it means that the power measurements are exact.  Therefore a sensitivity of 0.1% on power measurements is very much achievable, whether you measure 500HP or only 1HP on the same dyno.  The repeatability of tests are actually dependant on the ability of the engine itself to repeat its power reading.

    The load dyno uses Newton’s first law, which relates to the counter force on an eddy current brake to calculate the torque and power output of the vehicle at a specific speed.
